What You Can Expect
Structured Case Consultation
Get the support you actually need: No more second-guessing yourself in session. Our structured case consultations give you a clear, step-by-step process to talk through your toughest cases—so you walk away with real answers and a solid plan.
Grow faster with expert feedback: When you look at your cases through a collaborative lens with experienced clinicians, you'll spot what you're missing, build confidence in your clinical skills, and become the therapist you're working to be.
Feel confident you're on the right track: You'll have guidance rooted in evidence-based practice and ethical standards, so you can trust your clinical decisions and show up for your clients with clarity and purpose.
Ethical & Documentation Support
Navigate ethical gray areas with confidence: Every clinician faces tough calls. You'll get real-time guidance on ethical dilemmas so you can make sound decisions without the stress of figuring it out alone.
Documentation that protects you and your clients: Learn how to write clear, thorough clinical notes that meet legal and insurance standards—so your paperwork works for you instead of keeping you up at night.
Stay ahead of compliance, not behind it: From informed consent to mandated reporting, you'll have the support you need to stay current on regulations and feel prepared for whatever comes your way.
Professional Identity Development
Discover the clinician you're meant to be: Supervision isn't just about checking boxes—it's about finding your voice, your style, and your strengths as a therapist. We'll help you build a professional identity that feels authentic to who you are.
Own your expertise with confidence: It's normal to feel like you're "not ready yet." Through intentional reflection and mentorship, you'll learn to trust your clinical instincts and step into your role as a skilled, capable professional.
Stand out in a crowded field: Whether you're drawn to trauma work, couples therapy, or something else entirely, we'll help you define your niche, clarify your values, and build a professional brand that sets you apart.

Meet the Supervisor
Cyd C McDaniel, LCSW
Hi, I'm Cyd.
LCSW | QS | Licensed in NC & SC
If you're looking for a supervisor who truly invests in your growth—not just someone to sign off on your hours—you're in the right place.
I'm the founder and Executive Director of Essential Journey Counseling, a trauma-informed mental health practice with locations in Gastonia and Waxhaw, North Carolina. I'm also the heart behind Essential Journey Wellness, where I extend my passion for healing through coaching, retreats, webinars, and holistic wellness experiences.
I graduated from Howard University in 1998 with a Master's in Social Work, and I've spent over 20 years doing the work I love—specializing in couples therapy, trauma-informed care, and family counseling. Along the way, I've continued to grow through specialized certifications in Trauma-Informed Practice, Mindfulness, Holistic Therapy, Sound Healing, and as a 300-hour Registered Yoga Teacher. I say that to say—I'm still learning too, and I believe the best clinicians never stop.
My greatest passion is pouring into the next generation of therapists. As a board-certified Qualified Supervisor, I've spent years walking alongside pre-licensed clinicians on their journey to full licensure—guiding them through clinical conceptualization, ethical decision-making, documentation, and the deeply personal process of discovering who they are as therapists. My supervision style is warm, direct, and grounded in real-world experience. I don't just teach theory—I help you find your voice, trust your instincts, and step into your role as a confident, capable clinician.
I also created The Thriving Therapist, a mentorship program for therapists who dream of launching their own private practice. If you've ever thought, "I want to do this on my own, but I don't know where to start," this program was built with you in mind. I've taken the hard-won lessons of building my own multi-location practice from the ground up and turned them into a roadmap—so you don't have to figure it out alone.
Whether I'm sitting with a couple navigating a difficult season, leading a wellness retreat, or helping a supervisee find their footing in their very first session, I bring the same energy to everything I do—compassion, honesty, and an unwavering belief that you have what it takes.
Your journey to becoming the therapist you were meant to be starts here.
